Sisterlocks™ is a hair locking technique which simply creates a stable woven framework in a lock of hair within which the natural interlocking process can take place. This allows people with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today’s hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair.

Sisterlocks™ are a trademarked hairstyle created and developed in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell. They can only be strictly installed by a certified Sisterlocks™ consultant or trainee and follow a specific guideline. The consultants use specific tools and products for the installation and maintenance of the locks.

Microlocks are simply traditional locks that are smaller than the size of a pencil or your pinky finger. They are installed by either using the coiling method, braiding, two-strand twist, or the interlocking method. Here at Sisters That Lock we use the interlocking method for microlocks, unless another method is requested.

The total price for establishments vary in price and is based on the client's hair length and density. At Sisters That Lock, the base rate starts at $600 for Microlocks & $675 for Sisterlocks™. However, the final price is discussed only at the consultation.

Please Note: Rates can change, however, the quoted price given at the end of your consultation is valid for 30 days. After 30 days, a new consultation is required to reevaluate the hair.

The initial locking process takes about 1 to 3 or more days. Factors that will affect the length of the initial locking session are: hair length, density, condition of the hair, size of head and lock size desired.

1.5 – 2 inches of virgin hair is required to install Sisterlocks™. For Microlocks, we recommend at least 4 inches to start your journey.

If a consultant’s name is not on the site, I suggest that you continue your search. However, please note that not all consultants who have been trained are listed on the site. Do your DUE DILIGENCE! 

For Sisterlocks™, the short answer is no. The Sisterlock™ process does not require or allow the use of extensions to install Sisterlocks™ or Brotherlocks™.  For Microlocks, the answer is yes, however we do not offer microlock extension services.

Yes. However, 1.5 to 2 inches of new growth is needed in order to install your locks. However, 4 inches of new growth is ideal. The relaxed hair is not locked and will eventually be trimmed off as your locks mature and grow.

It is highly recommended that you color your hair before your initial Sisterlock™ or Microlocks installation.
